How to quickly warm a room without a heater - effective life hacks

Periods when the heating season has not yet begun or has already ended force residents to come up with various ways to quickly and effectively warm up a room without a heater.

The simplest thing is to connect an electric heat source. But its operation always leads to a significant increase in electricity bills. In severe frosts, the power of such radiators is not enough, but you need to warm up. We invite you to try effective ways to increase the temperature in the room.

Blackout curtains

Thin, weightless curtains, popular in summer, are best replaced in winter with thick curtains made from natural materials. As dusk approaches, they will need to be closed tightly to prevent cold air from entering through cracks in the windows.

Blackout curtains
During the day, they are opened as wide as possible to allow the penetration of sunlight. They will help warm up the surfaces by 1-2 degrees.

Important: even the thickest curtains will remain powerless if the windows are not insulated. For modern plastic windows, it is necessary to carry out adjustments with the onset of the autumn-winter period in order to prevent large heat losses. It is worth paying attention to the presence of cracks in the space under the window sill. If there are any, you need to foam them with polyurethane foam.

Alternative heating without gas

Don’t fall victim to not-so-expensive PR campaigns by falling for slogans like this: “Economical electric heaters!” Any building has heat losses in winter; they need to be shut off in order to maintain positive temperatures in the house. And, if the estimated 10 or 15 kW of heat per hour is needed for heating, then they will have to be pulled out of the network. No 0.5 kW electric heaters will provide this.

There are also other heating units and systems that are alternative to gas heating: solar collectors (solar collectors), boilers, fireplaces, stoves and other models of equipment for heating water and heating. But their use is advisable as an additional, and not the main, constant source of heat generator for heating a house. That's why we wrote them as one of the items in this list of heating solutions.

Rice. 1 — The solar collector (solar collector) is a fairly expensive source for citizens of Ukraine with an average salary. Unlike solar panels, solar collectors heat the coolant material.

Rice. 2 - For continuous operation of the buleryan, it is necessary to periodically add firewood, which today is not so cheap. In addition, in order to achieve the desired result of heating a room using this development of Canadian scientists, you need to take into account a number of factors: the type of buleryan, choosing the appropriate size, location in the house/garage/other room.

Rice. 3 - The fireplace again heats the room if you periodically add firewood to it. Yes it's beautiful. And we will not argue with the fact that a fireplace creates additional comfort in the house, especially in winter. But it is not suitable as a stand-alone heating equipment.

Foot bath

Before settling down comfortably in a chair or on the sofa, it is recommended to prepare a warm bath. The water should not be scalding, but hot enough. It is worth adding sea salt to the water to provide an additional anti-cold effect. Hot water vapor will heat the air around it.

Foot bath
Be sure to have a dry towel ready to dry your feet and warm socks. They need to be put on immediately after the water in the bath has cooled.

Optimal temperature in the apartment

When your home is very cold, it not only brings discomfort, but can also cause health problems. Regular hypothermia leads to frequent colds. Children and older people are especially prone to this. The optimal temperature in the apartment should not be lower than 21-23℃. You can control the air temperature with special devices, which are offered in a large assortment by the modern market of technical devices.

Electric blanket

The most unpleasant thing in a cold room is to lie down in an unheated bed when all the bedding feels icy and damp. The body will need to use all its resources to heat the surfaces and allow its owner to fall asleep.

We recommend purchasing an electric blanket or sheet. They can be placed in your bed 20 minutes before going to bed. Typically, such electrical appliances have several modes that allow the surface to be heated with different intensities.

Don't worry - sheets and blankets with heating elements come with automatic shut-off systems. In addition, a removable heating element can be provided, which will allow you to wash the sheet or blanket in the machine.

How to quickly warm a cold house after a long absence? 6 efficient electrical appliances

When we come to the dacha in winter, we go into cold, chilled rooms and wait a long time for the stove or fireplace to light up. Is it possible to quickly warm up a house? And what to do in severe frosts if the main heating system cannot cope?

Electric heaters can be a way out. It is too expensive to use them as the main heat source, but they are certainly good as a means of quick and efficient heating. Of course, if the allocated power is enough.

If the electrical network is not designed for a load of more than 2.5 kW, it will be extremely difficult to heat the house using electrical appliances

In order to quickly heat a room of 10-15 m² to +15-18°C, one 2 kW electrical appliance is enough. All that remains is to choose the appropriate device.

Oil radiator

It is a device in a durable (and rather bulky) metal case. The coolant is mineral oil, and the energy source is a tubular electric heater. Some manufacturers provide their products with built-in fans so that warm air spreads around the room faster, but this solution has an obvious disadvantage. The heater ceases to be silent, which means that it can only be started during the daytime. However, many users are willing to put up with a relatively quiet hum.

The more serious problem is massiveness. Oil radiators weigh on average from 4 to 8 kg, and moving them from room to room can be difficult, even despite the wheels screwed to the legs. Another disadvantage is the unpleasant smell of heated oil, which appears when the device is used for a long time. It is impossible not to mention the relatively long time to get into working mode. It takes about 30 minutes for the device to gain maximum power, so it is not optimal as an ambulance.

Convector

There is no coolant as such in this device. Cold air passes through openings at the bottom of the panel, is heated and exits through louvers at the top.

The heat source can be open filament coils, which are cheap but impractical. Dust burns on them, which causes an unpleasant odor in the room and the air becomes too dry. Low-temperature heating elements - heating elements, in which the filament is placed in a steel tube, perform much better.

The convector quickly “starts working” and raises the temperature in the room to a comfortable one. Devices of this kind have an elegant, laconic design, do not take up much usable space and do not create problems during installation. The disadvantage is the actual convection principle of operation. The heater blows dust through the air and creates drafts. In addition, heating will always be somewhat uneven - cold near the floor, hot near the ceiling.

The convector is a safe device. If the oil radiator housing can heat up to 150°C, then the convector housing can heat up to a maximum of 60°C.

Infrared heater

These devices distribute thermal energy, heating the objects around them, and they, in turn, heat the air. This is effective and, importantly, economical heating, since infrared heaters consume much less energy than other types of heaters. Another obvious advantage is the possibility of use in open areas, for example, on a terrace or in a gazebo.

The body of the device does not heat up above 75°C, so the likelihood of burns tends to zero. It is also worth noting the absolute silent operation and ease of installation.

There are combined appliances that heat the room with both convection and infrared radiation. The infrared mode is activated when there is not enough power from the heating element

Electric fireplace

As you might guess, the device follows the shape and size of a fireplace. Artificial logs and coals are placed in the “hearth”, and an imitation of flames is created using proper lighting. This device will be a wonderful interior decoration. There can even be a crackling effect of logs, creating a cozy atmosphere. As for the main function, powerful models are capable of heating a room up to 30 m².

Buy warm home clothes - slippers and pajamas

We are used to seeing people in foreign films who go to bed in thick pajamas and high socks, and use pancake trousers and sweatshirts as home clothes. This is an effective way to keep warm during the cold season when heating power is not enough.

We recommend purchasing additional warm slippers. It is better if their lining is made of natural wool. In the morning, they will be a lifesaver and will prevent you from walking on an icy floor.

Tip: for those who are especially advanced, it is fashionable to look in stores for options for slippers that are heated.

Alternative heating options

To heat an apartment in winter without central heating or without gas, you can use other equipment. The stores offer many alternative heat sources:

  • heat pumps operating on low-temperature heat sources;
  • solar collectors using solar energy as a heat source;
  • electric heating devices.

Heat pumps are widespread in European countries. There they have long since switched from alternative heat sources to primary ones. Such devices are suitable for heating private houses. The advantage of using a heat pump is its high efficiency. Using a heat pump, you can heat your home and at the same time provide hot water supply. The disadvantage of this heating method is the high cost of the equipment. In addition, it is difficult to use a heat pump in a city apartment.

Another option for heating equipment is solar collectors. They convert the sun's rays into coolant energy and transfer it to the consumer. These devices differ in operating principles. Direct-acting devices immediately heat the water and transfer it for use in the hot water supply or heating system. Indirect heating devices use non-freezing liquid. With its help, energy is supplied to the heat exchange circuit. Solar panels are mounted on the roofs of buildings. They can be used to heat city apartments if the roof area allows for installation of the equipment.

The main disadvantage of such a heating system is the high cost of the equipment. It is profitable to use solar panels only in European countries, since the price of energy there is high. Also inconvenient is the strong dependence of the stability of operation of such equipment on weather conditions. Therefore, in our country, heating with solar collectors can only be considered as an alternative option.

Install an additional screen behind the battery

A screen made of foamed polyethylene with a foil surface, placed behind the heating radiator (slightly larger in size than the radiator), will create an additional layer of insulation and direct the heated air back to the center of the room.

If there is no special coating, you can make a screen from ordinary kitchen foil.

There are many other ways to increase the heat dissipation of a battery. We discussed in more detail what effective ways to increase the heat transfer of a battery are in the article: effective ways to increase the heat transfer of a battery during the heating season.

Place blankets in the rooms

A blanket is not only a warm blanket, but also a stylish piece of furniture. Several of these textiles should be laid out on sofas and armchairs so that you can throw them over your shoulders at any time. It is recommended to choose a product made from natural materials. For example, wool. It will warm you up faster during cold periods and retain body heat for a long time.

On the Internet you can find interesting options for blankets - with sleeves, with a mermaid tail and others.

Advantages of a heat meter

If the heating system of a high-rise building allows you to install heat meters, then you can save on heating, subject to some nuances:

  • if there are cold places in the apartment and heat losses are quite extensive, then the accounting system is an irrational waste. First you need to solve the issue of insulating windows, balconies, doors, walls, and then think about saving;
  • Apartment meters do not always pay off, since, in addition to the consumed heat, you have to pay for its delivery via the heating main and heating of non-residential premises, for example, staircases. It will be cheaper if there is a public metering system and payment is made in accordance with the consumption of the entire building, divided by the number of apartments. This is beneficial if the house is equipped with good thermal insulation. This option is more expensive, but it pays off, so it makes sense for all residents to unite and install a public meter;
  • If the accounting system is in the apartment and registered with the management organization, then you can save by reducing the temperature in the house. To do this, you need to slightly reduce the flow of coolant into the apartment, and by reducing the temperature by 1 degree, you can save up to 6% of heat.
  • Economical heating of an apartment with an individual metering system is possible if there is no heat loss in the apartment.

Stock up on hot water bottles

If you don't have an electric sheet or blanket, you can make do with improvised means. The simplest heating pad is a water bottle filled with hot water. Be sure to wrap it in a thick terry towel to avoid burns.

You can buy heating pads in the store. These can be rubber containers or those for which a soft, pleasant cover is provided. Not all heating pads work with hot water. There are options that can be heated in a microwave oven. Just put it in the microwave, warm it up for a minute and you can use it.

Tip: a good option is a salt heating pad. Heating occurs due to the crystallization of salt grains. In addition to the warming effect, the prevention of nasopharyngeal diseases when inhaling salt vapors is additionally carried out.

Make warming teas

Any hot drink has a warming property. But not everyone has a “warming” effect. In the autumn-winter period, we recommend switching from regular teas to ones that contain useful additives. These include: cinnamon, ginger root, honey, spices, etc.

An example of a warming tea recipe:

  • 1 liter of water;
  • 1 teaspoon black tea;
  • half a lemon;
  • 3 cm ginger root (cut thinly);
  • a pinch of cinnamon;
  • small apple, cut into slices.

Brew tea and add all ingredients. Cook over low heat for 10 minutes (after boiling). It is recommended to add honey to the drink. 4 teaspoons will be enough. It is better to use buckwheat.

Honey with tea
But it is better to add honey to a warm rather than a hot drink. This will help preserve the maximum of useful substances contained in it.

Warm the bed with a hairdryer

To quickly warm up your bed linen before going to bed, use a household hair dryer. It can also be used to make items of clothing warm.

Important: do not cover the hairdryer with a blanket or put it in a sleeve of clothing - this may cause a fire.

In addition to the listed ways to warm up, there is another effective one - hug with loved ones. Spend the evening under the same blanket with your loved one. Not only will your body warm up, but your relationships will also warm up. This is especially true in the modern world, when everyone is busy with their own business and loved ones often miss this important moment in relationships.

How can you heat a room or apartment without a heater: review and evaluation of methods

The heating season in apartments and houses with a centralized heating system is fixed and begins on a specific day.

However, the weather does not always allow you to bask in the warmth until the radiators are turned on; it often starts to get colder earlier and the temperature in the rooms begins to drop noticeably.

Heaters save the day, but it also happens that at a particular moment such a device may not be at home. Here you have to get creative and use more interesting methods of heating rooms.

It is possible to heat a room without a heater!

To raise the room temperature, you can use several simple methods:

"Kitchen" methods

If the apartment is cold, the easiest and most productive way is to start cooking, preferably both on the stove and in the oven. This way the room will heat up quite quickly, and the food will also be ready.

It is safe as long as a person is in the kitchen and controls all processes.

And to increase the efficiency of heat transfer, it is better to leave the oven to cool with the door open after cooking.

The option of leaving gas burners on is very dangerous, as there is a risk of forgetting about the stove, thereby causing an explosion or carbon monoxide poisoning.

The cooking process increases the room temperature

Boiling water. Putting a pot of water on the stove and letting it simmer may seem like a good idea from a heating standpoint. Indeed, constant boiling will warm the room, but you shouldn’t get too carried away with this method.

The large amount of steam that enters the air increases humidity and absorbs heat, so the room will quickly become cool again. In addition, it will feel even fresher there, since the humid air feels colder.

The boiling water option is good for boiling a kettle, but it is not very effective either.

Boiling water not only warms the room, but also moisturizes it

Bath

Hot water. A full hot bath will help warm the air in the bathroom and adjacent room - the water will simply raise the temperature.

This option is convenient to use before water procedures - first draw a bath, heat the room, and then go to the shower in an already warm room.

In other situations, this is not very effective and economical - the water will quickly cool down and you will have to fill it up again and again, which can become a big problem if you have a meter.

Running hot water in the bath is one way to heat a room

Electrical appliances to help

If the house has an air conditioner, you should definitely read the instructions for it, because most modern models have an air heating function. Here it is worth considering an important point - you can warm up using the air conditioner only until the temperature outside drops below +5. This is a simple and economical way to quickly warm up a room.

Immediately after turning on the heating on the air conditioner, warm air will not come out of it. You need to wait about 10 minutes for the system to rebuild.

Hair dryer. During operation, the hairdryer heats the air stream and blows it out - why not use it as a small heater.

Of course, heating the entire room in this way is problematic, but there is an excellent option to warm up - build a hut from blankets and turn on a hairdryer in it - a small space will heat up very quickly this way.

But you should be careful - during operation the device heats up, and metal elements in contact with synthetic fabrics create a fire hazard.

Hot air from a hairdryer can also heat up a confined space.

Vacuum cleaner. If the room is cool, then a good solution would be to start cleaning and vacuuming, after closing the doors to other rooms.

During operation, heated air comes out from the back of the vacuum cleaner - as a result, the temperature will actually rise. This is an exclusively local and temporary solution; it will not be possible to efficiently heat the entire apartment in this way.

In addition, you need to make sure that the filters are clean, otherwise, in addition to the heat, the room will be filled with an unpleasant smell of dust.

Hot air comes out of the vacuum cleaner during operation.

For all of the above methods to work most effectively, heat loss must be minimized. For example, put a carpet on the floor, seal the cracks in the windows, and close the ventilation holes. However, when cooking on a gas stove, it is better not to isolate the outflow and inflow of air - this will make the room dangerous.

You can really warm up at home without a heater using simple methods: turning on the oven, putting a kettle on the stove or using a hairdryer. Such methods give results, but they are short-lived, and not all of them are safe, so you should not lose your vigilance.
