Problems with ignition
Typically, batteries in geysers are located in the lower right corner, and replacing them does not require much effort.
Situations are often observed when gas is supplied, there is draft, the pressure is normal, but the gas water heater does not ignite. If you have a Neva or Oasis gas water heater installed with electric ignition, listen to see if there is a spark being generated. The presence of a spark is indicated by a characteristic crackling sound heard when the tap is opened. If you hear a crackling sound, but the gas heater does not ignite, try replacing the batteries - this is a very common reason for the lack of ignition (a weak spark makes normal ignition impossible). Owners of speakers with piezoelectric ignition need to make sure that the igniter is working. If it lights up, then the column should light up immediately, without hesitation. If there is no flame, try to light it with the ignition button. If the gas in the igniter does not ignite, then the problem is in the igniter itself (in the nozzle) - it needs to be cleaned. To do this, we disassemble the gas water heater, get to the fuse and clean it with steel wire. Next, we try to light the column again.
When repairing your geyser, be careful and always turn off the gas supply before carrying out any operations. As for hydrodynamic ignition, it is a combination of a small generator and an electrical circuit that generates a spark and powers some other electronic components
If the generator or circuit fails, the gas water heater will not light. Self-repair here is only possible if you have the appropriate knowledge and experience in electronics repair

Main malfunctions during the operation of Roda geysers
_______________________________________________________________________________
I have a Roda Turbo gas water heater connected. Tell me why she started heating the water poorly? What do you recommend I do to solve the problem? Option one is a blockage in the heat exchanger. The formation of plaque in the heat exchanger partitions creates an obstacle to the full heating of water, and the device begins to heat the water unsatisfactorily. Therefore, it is necessary to clean the heat exchanger. Option two is frequent overheating of the heat exchanger. This means that the device is not being used correctly. An increase in temperature entails the formation of scale, which worsens the heating process of the liquid. In such a situation, replace the heat exchanger. We use a gas water heater from the same company in our country house. After four years of operation, the heat exchanger began to leak. The repair did not solve the problem, and after three weeks a new device was purchased. The installer said it needs to be cleaned and maintained once a year. I cleaned it and did preventive maintenance. In general, this device worked for four years, but the problem was the same - a heat exchanger leak. Why could this be? We assume that the water is of poor quality, which is why the heat exchangers fail. A model of the specified brand is connected in a private house. I just don’t understand why the water gets too hot at times? What's wrong? The regulators may be installed incorrectly. We need to transfer them to the summer. Using the gas supply adjustment knob, minimize the gas on the burner device, and then increase the water flow on the device. A problem has occurred on the Roda JSD20-T1 turbocharged gas pump. The igniter lights, I leave it in this position for about 4 minutes. Then I put it in operating mode, but the device goes out. What does this depend on? Try disassembling the housing, unscrewing the gas supply tube to the igniter, and cleaning it. In theory, this procedure is recommended to be carried out every year, especially after summer, since dust penetrates into the gas pipe through open windows. I just can’t figure out in what cases a geyser starts to work very poorly in the heating cycle. How to fix it? Apparently, the burner has a weak flame, which indicates a malfunction of the membrane, and the pressure of the rod to the gas valve is very weak. You need to remove the water unit from the gas fittings. Next, unscrew the cap from the water block and check the membrane for ruptures, and if it is unsuitable, install a new one. Several years ago, we connected a gas water heater from the above company to heat a private house. Recently I discovered a problem with the ignition. When a request for hot water arrives, the igniter is ignited. It lights up and suddenly goes out, and then the water heater starts again. And so on for about two or three attempts. The device then functions normally. I can't figure out why the pilot light doesn't ignite the main burner? What is this problem? Now the water heater operates according to the following principle. A spark appears, which ignites the igniter. Then the spark disappears, the igniter burns for a short time and goes out. The device re-energizes the spark discharge, the wick ignites, the spark disappears, and after a short pause the main burner lights up. Apparently there is a problem with the ionization sensor. First, you must inspect it. Of course, it is advisable to replace it with a new one, but if you can’t, you need to clean this one with sandpaper. Also clean the burner using a metal brush. After these procedures, it is important to make sure that the wick does not burn with a yellow flame, but with a blue one. In addition, the flame needs to reach the ionization sensor. We installed and connected the Roda JSD20-B1 gas flow-through column at the end of that year. But with the onset of winter, a problem is often noted, in particular, low gas capacity, and the supply of gas is not pure. Help me troubleshoot? There is an adjustment screw at the bottom of the unit. With the burner switched on, try to turn it to the left and adjust the flame to the correct value. In summer, turn it back. If this procedure does not eliminate the problem, then the pressure in the gas pipeline is really unsatisfactory. The water heater has been in use for about 6 years. Recently the ignition device stopped working, and when you try to light it with matches, the wick immediately goes out when you set the regulator to the heating position. How to be in this case? We have the same problem. The technicians explained that the thermocouple was damaged. Can someone please tell me the Roda Turbo JSD20-T1 household gas water heater. If you open a hot water tap, the device goes out. I tried cleaning the thermocouple, but that didn't help. We examined the membrane, it was normal, but one way or another they installed a new one. There is a decrease in water pressure, although not much. How to check and find the problem? It can be assumed that the traction is weak or the traction sensor is broken. Be sure to check them out. Sometimes, instead of a draft sensor, a bent tube is installed in the upper part of the water heater. With its help, the air required for combustion is supplied. When a draft problem occurs, it is not air that passes through the tube, but smoke. Because of this, there is a lack of oxygen for the burner and it goes out. However, we recommend checking the pilot flame. It should completely envelop the thermocouple. When this does not happen, the thermocouple heats up poorly and stops sending a signal to the main burner to ignite. Yesterday I discovered the following malfunction: the Roda JSD20-A2 gas water heater stops during operation. Explain what problems there might be? Most likely, the membrane in the water unit is damaged. It could be worn out or deformed, so it needs to be replaced. You can also inspect the EMC valve, because it contains an electromagnetic coil that could break. The coil is not repairable, only replacement. Someone tell me about the malfunctions of the gas water heater. After a short period of time after starting, the device completely goes out, and then the igniter can only be lit with matches. How to fix the problem? Most likely, there is a lack of draft in the chimney, which is why the reverse draft sensor is triggered and the device goes out. You must have your chimney duct checked. There may also be overheating of the liquid in the heat exchanger when the temperature rises to 90C. In this case, the overheating sensor will turn on and turn off the unit. To lower the water temperature, you need to reduce the gas supply to the main burner using the regulator. How can you find out for what reasons a gas water heater starts to burn and can immediately go out? How should I fix this problem? The first reason is a dirty chimney. Most likely, a significant mass of soot deposits has accumulated inside it, and combustion products are removed with difficulty, which is why the draft sensor is triggered. The thermocouple opens and the water heater flame goes out. Another reason is increased wind, which can extinguish the flame of the unit if there is a draft in the room. This triggers the protection system and blocks the gas supply. Try to avoid sudden gusts of wind. But there is no need to completely block access to fresh air, since the column must be operated with the window open. If there is no fresh air, there will be a lack of draft and the flame will begin to go out. The Roda JSD20-T1 turbocharged gas water heater is in operation. Please explain why she started heating the water intensively? What operations are recommended to resolve the problem? A possible cause may be excessively high blood pressure. Set the water heating temperature regulator to maximum flow, and set the gas regulator to the minimum gas flow to the burner position. This method can help reduce the temperature of the water that comes from the column. What is the reason why there is a delay in ignition and the gas burner makes popping noises? The spark from the ignition mechanism does not reach the main burner, or it is insignificant. The igniter and nozzle should be cleaned. Then perform the adjustment procedure. Column problem. I want to turn it on, I can see a spark, but the igniter does not ignite. How to fix? Ignition nozzle clogged. Should be cleaned. The ignition electrode is in the wrong position. Adjust it. Presence of air in the gas pipeline. Remove air. We installed and connected a gas instantaneous water heater Roda JSD20-A6. The problem is that the device starts up and then goes out after a couple of seconds. Most often this starts at night, when the device has been idle for a long time. Moreover, if it heats water regularly, it does not turn off. When you click the microswitch for a long time, the column lights up and functions normally for three to four days. What is this reason? There is no need to click the microswitch, just replace it with a new one, because yours is broken. The actions of the device are approximately as follows. Initially, a spark is formed and sent to the igniter. An ionization signal is transmitted, gas begins to flow to the main burner, and the flame flares up. If there is no signal that the pilot burner is functioning, the main burner will not turn on either. In your case, the pilot device sends a signal, but the main burner cannot start. Ignition takes place, but there is no signal, therefore the flow of gas is blocked. It is recommended to clean the electrode. A similar unit is in operation. Why does the pilot burner go out during ignition? What kind of malfunction is this? The thermocouple is inoperative. Needs replacement. The coil is damaged. Change it. A question has arisen regarding the operation of the Roda JSD20-A1 gas water heater. Here's what happened: the pilot burns normally, but the main burner can't. What needs to be done and how to repair it? Low water pressure. Create the recommended system pressure. To do this, turn the knob to the right until it stops. Membrane defect. Replace it with a new one. There is a water pump at home. When I turn off the water, the gas burner does not go out. What is the cause of the breakdown? The valve in the gas valve is clogged. Conduct its diagnostics. Clean if necessary. The hydraulic valve stem is stuck in the open position. Remove parts, clean, change if necessary. Check the gas supply pressure. Adjust if necessary. Replace the cylinder pressure regulator. I just can’t understand what is the reason that there is no spark when the unit is turned on? The thermocouple wire has become disconnected. Secure the wiring correctly. Thermocouple fault. It is necessary to inspect this device and replace it. Inoperative spark electrode. Replace it.

In operation, the Neva VPG-12E gas water heater, after turning on the hot water tap, the water heater lights up, but the temperature does not rise above 20 degrees. The water pressure is normal, it does not respond to the regulator for increasing the flame, as it was 18-20 degrees, it remains so. What could be the problem?
- ARISTON
I connected the Ariston Marco Polo Gi7s speaker. Everything is working. But the device turns on the second time. That is, you turn on the water, the column starts up, clicks and goes into error E1. Then he closed the tap, opened it and it started. Powered by a cylinder. Is this possible because after it works I turn off the gas?
- ELECTROLUX
There is a malfunction of the Electrolux 275 geyser, when you turn on the hot water, everything lights up and works for 5-7 minutes, after which there is a click in it and it goes out along with the igniter. Tell me what is the problem?

If yes, what should I replace it with?
- VECTOR
Tell me, I have this problem: when the water is turned off, the column lights up on its own, the temperature rises and does not turn off (I had to take out the batteries), I put the batteries back in (I don’t turn on the water), it lights up, what should I do?
- ASTER
Help me find the reason, geyser Astra 8910-02, when hot water is turned on it goes out from time to time, I cleaned the thermocouple until it shines, the membrane is in good condition, but just in case I replaced it with a new one, the water pressure is less than that of cold water, what else note?
- BOSCH
I installed and put into operation a Bosch WR 13 gas water heater. I switched the nozzles to liquefied gas, removed the jumper from j6, that is, switched it to liquefied gas mode, but the water heater does not work, who knows anything about this? When turned on, the green button lights up for a couple of seconds, and then the red button starts blinking and only the fan turns on.
- JUNKERS
The Junkers gas water heater began to malfunction. It works for 15-20 minutes and goes out. You turn the water off and on, the igniter lights up, and after a few seconds it goes out, and you can do this no matter how many times, it doesn’t light up. A little time passes - it works, and everything repeats again. The water pressure is good, as is the gas pressure. What could be the reason?
The column does not turn on
If the gas water heater does not turn on, you do not always need to call the experts. There are a number of malfunctions in the gas water heater that the user can repair independently.
Insufficient pressure
The automatic system blocks the gas supply in case of insufficient water pressure. You can estimate the pressure by simply opening the water taps. If it is small or absent altogether, it means that an emergency shutdown in the gas water heater is not due to a breakdown of the device.
In the case of normal pressure in the tap, it is worth looking for reasons in the water heating system. As a rule, a decrease in pressure is a consequence of filter contamination or membrane damage.
Coarse filter
To correct the sources of failure due to which the wick of the geyser goes out, the owner will have to:
- clean or change the filtration system;
- install a new membrane partition for the water unit;
- clean the pipeline.
Faulty ignition system
Depending on the models, there are three types of ignition: electric ignition (in modern versions), an igniter, which has a small constant flame, and a hydraulic turbine - from pressure.
The electric ignition runs on built-in batteries. According to manufacturers, they last for about a year. But as practice shows, the service life of such batteries is shorter. For example, in the Bosch gas water heater models W 10 KB or WR 10-2 B, there is an LED on the front panel that indicates the status of the batteries. The Neva Lux range of gas water heaters is also equipped with this type of ignition. If necessary, old batteries are replaced with new ones.
In the case of a hydroturbine type of ignition, for example, as in the Bosch WRD 13-2 G or WRD 10-2 G, a malfunction may occur due to the lack of water pressure on which it is based.
In progress
If the column works for a long time and then goes out, then the reasons may be the following:
- Programmed time. Depending on the company and model, the time can be 20-30 minutes. It is embedded in the control unit and is a protective mechanism.
- Temperature sensor triggered. If the heat exchanger temperature rises above 100 degrees, the column will automatically turn off.
- Water pressure has dropped. If the pressure in the water supply decreases, the gas is turned off. The reasons for this can be found in the utility services.
- Low gas pressure. If the gas flow drops, the ionization sensor is triggered.
The gas water heater does not work, goes out quickly or does not turn on, the water is cold...
The geyser may go out immediately after being turned on, or turn on only after several attempts... Also, due to a breakdown of the geyser, the water may heat up only a little... Let's look at the malfunctions of the gas flow and decide whether it can be repaired with our own hands. The fact is that in most cases the repair is not complicated, it is performed in several steps, it is only important to correctly recognize the cause. But only a licensed organization with appropriately qualified personnel can carry out repairs of gas equipment...
Why is there no gas flowing to the burner?
There are a number of protections in the gas column that prevent gas from entering the burner if normal conditions for its combustion are not met. The following must be done:
- circulation of water through the heat exchanger at a certain flow rate;
- normal chimney draft;
- normal gas pressure;
- there is a flame on the burner.
If something is wrong, the gas valve closes. Its position is normally closed. It opens slightly with a coil when the situation in all systems is “Normal”. Why does the column light up first, and then a second or two later the valve closes?...
No combustion
If the flame in the gas water heater does not light up, then most likely there is no ignition. Many speakers are powered by a piezo element that produces a spark from the batteries. The latter need to be changed on time. Experienced craftsmen prefer to put a battery from an old phone into the speaker instead of batteries and charge it with a regular charger.
If there is no gas supply, but there is a spark, then it is possible:
- there is no movement of water through the heat exchanger - the water relay does not allow the valve to open;
- there is no normal draft to the chimney - the control system for drawing air through the burner also does not allow the presence of a flame in it...
The column turns on on the tenth try or you need to hold the switch for a long time...
The flame sensor, also known as a thermocouple, is the main protection of the gas water heater. If the flame goes out, the valve closes immediately.
If the sensor heats up for too long due to incorrect installation, then the column turns on “the tenth time.”
If the column turns on and immediately goes out, then perhaps the voltage generated by the sensor does not reach the control unit at all - the thermocouple cable is broken, there are no contacts.
Typical thermocouple malfunctions.
- Incorrect installation above the burner - the gap should be 6.5 mm. Adjustable by bending according to a pattern, a wooden wedge or a selected bolt.
- The contacts of the sensor with the cable have oxidized - this can be eliminated by reconnecting the cable to the sensor, cutting off the end section of the cable by a couple of centimeters.
How to set up a thermocouple, setting the gap in the gas water column video...
The column immediately goes out - what's the matter?
The gas flow-through heater turns on automatically when the tap is opened, which means when water moves through the heat exchanger. In case of certain breakdowns in the water relay circuit, switching does not occur, or the column immediately goes out. The most typical action in this situation is to check the relay connection contacts, since changes in temperature and humidity cause the lubricant to evaporate and metals to oxidize. It is recommended to clean and lubricate the contacts.
The same can happen in the traction control system - all column protections need to be checked for functionality in the event of such breakdowns.
How to repair a gas water heater
The first priority is to check the functionality of the thermocouple and the correct clearance above the burner. To do this, other sensors are simply short-circuited with jumpers and placed in the “on-normal” position. After the operation of the thermocouple has been verified, you can connect sensors one by one instead of jumpers and look for the defective circuit. Video about geyser repair:
In addition, there may simply be breakdowns in the supply systems.
- The chimney is clogged - incorrect, unstable operation of the gas water heater, black smoke, oxygen supply is disrupted - urgently needs to be cleaned...
- Water is not supplied - the filter is clogged, the taps are closed, there is insufficient pressure.
When carrying out any repair of a geyser, you first need to check the presence of normal draft “to a burning match”, as well as the water supply, for example, by disconnecting the supply pipeline...
Why is the water not warm enough?
In some models, the system for maintaining the set water temperature is so complex that it fails; you need to check the correct operation of the sensors responsible for this. Sometimes it’s easier to coarse them...
Another point is whether the power of the device corresponds to the actual water consumption and its temperature, maybe it’s time to replace the gas water heater?..
What other reasons are there for extinction?
Failure of the gas water heater can also be caused by these elements.
Outdated membrane
The polymer material from which the membranes are made has sufficient elasticity, but after many years of use it disappears and the element becomes rigid, and it is possible that cracks or lime deposits may appear in it. Such defects will not allow the gas water heater to work regardless of how the tap is opened. Therefore, it is worth removing and inspecting the membrane: if its condition causes concern, a replacement for this element should be found as soon as possible.
Ignition system and piezo element
In devices that do not have an igniter, its functions are performed by electronic ignition, where the spark is generated by batteries. Perhaps the fault lies with them, since they are not always able to work for a whole year. In other geysers, a piezoelectric element driven by a water turbine is responsible for producing a spark. Such an ignition system will not help if the water pressure is low.
A regular igniter is also at risk of clogging; this can be easily determined by the yellow color of the flame. If the burner ignites with a loud bang, this is your case. After cleaning the element, everything returns to normal.
The shower turns on - the speaker goes off
If the water heater only turns off when the shower is turned on, then it is entirely its fault. The reasons may be:
- The mesh filter installed in the shower head is clogged.
- When the watering can becomes clogged, the water pressure decreases. You can try to unscrew it. If the column starts working, the reason has been found.
- The inner rubber pipe of the hose has become twisted, blocking the flow of water.
Ignition and instantaneous extinguishing of the gas water heater
This situation most often occurs due to improper operation of the device by users. When such a water heater is in working condition, it is strictly forbidden to open cold water to dilute hot water. This action is a most dangerous violation of the rules of its use. It can cause serious damage to the device. The temperature of the liquid is regulated solely by supplying gas.
If the cause of the problem is the wick, then it is best to seek help from qualified specialists. They will check the functions of the thermocouple and gas control system, clean and adjust the igniter. Often, the problem when the pilot light of a gas water heater goes out is solved by completely cleaning the water heater.
In the case of a hydroturbine type of ignition, for example, as in the Bosch WRD 13-2 G or WRD 10-2 G, a malfunction may occur due to the lack of water pressure on which it is based.
Microexplosions during ignition
These unpleasant processes are only a consequence of low thrust, unsuitable batteries, contamination of the device itself, or a very large volume of gas supplied to the column. To troubleshoot the problem yourself, the owner can only clean the exhaust duct or replace the batteries. If the problem is not solved, then only gas service employees can understand why the dispenser goes out.
