Recently, updated Penoplex insulation types K, S, F, Osnova, which have replaced the well-known types 31/31C and 35 with and without fire retardants, have become more widely represented on the market. Professionals with solid experience in the field of civil, engineering and road construction, who have already appreciated the quality and practicality of earlier materials produced by Penoplex, prefer them. However, production volumes have gradually decreased and types 31C, 31 and 35 are becoming increasingly difficult to find.

As they say, an old friend is better than two new ones, but very soon the first modifications of insulation will be unavailable for the modern market, but the classic types K, S and F are in no way inferior to their predecessors in quality, and in some respects they are significantly superior to them.

Type 35

The most versatile type of insulation produced by this brand, due to its excellent performance characteristics and resistance to many external factors, including fire, is type 35. Fire resistance parameters are determined by the presence and concentration of special substances - fire retardants, which also affect the areas of application of various modifications of the material:

  • Penopolex 35 with fire retardants is used for thermal insulation and roof insulation;
  • Type 35 insulation without fire retardants is intended for insulation of foundations and floors.

The high mechanical strength of this material allows it to be used also for insulating utility lines, in the construction of pedestrian paths, and in the construction of cold bridges.

Dimensions:

  • These thermal insulation boards have a width of 600 mm and a thickness of 20 to 100, depending on the brand. The standard length of the slabs is 35-1200 mm with 1/4 (quarter) perimeter processing.
  • For the needs of railways, slabs are produced with a total length of 4000 and 4500 mm each. The perimeter edge remains straight, but there is a special profile (oblique quarter) along the long side.
  • Penoplex 35 slabs are supplied to customers packaged in polyethylene film, which can protect the material from the penetration of UV rays. The height of each package is from 40 to 42 cm with a different number of plates. More precisely, 4 to 17 pieces. The volume of an average package of slabs is 0.288 cubic meters.

Type 31/31С

This type of Penoplex insulation is more reliable due to its resistance to deformation. It was used in the insulation of facade systems and internal partitions in private houses, balconies and loggias in high-rise construction. The excellent insulating characteristics of this type of extruded polystyrene foam insulation have made it also in demand for insulating sewer lines laid in the upper frozen layer of soil.

In road construction, Penoplex 31, due to its high degree of resistance to deformation and weight loads, is also used to minimize the risk of the formation of so-called “ice lenses” due to freezing of the soil directly under a highway or railway.

Penoplex 31C (Standard) is the most suitable material for insulating static, non-load-bearing structures. It was preferred in the process of insulating internal wall partitions in private civil construction, as well as when laying utilities as part of water and heat supply systems. In engineering construction, Type 31C was also used to protect sewer lines from freezing, during the construction of wells, water storage tanks, swimming pool bowls, and when laying underground networks.

The main advantages of the material include low level of water absorption, low thermal conductivity, durability, strength, resistance to biological damage and ease of installation. Disadvantage: instability to deformation.

Penoplex density 35 kgm3

Penoplek is a brand of insulation. There are several types of thermal insulation materials. Penoplex, which has a density of 35, differs from other types in that it has a minimal thermal conductivity coefficient. This is a significant advantage.

Let's consider other advantages of Penoplex with a density of 35:

  1. There is no need to install additional waterproofing, since penoplex has a low level of water absorption.
  2. Penoplex does not rot or be destroyed by biological pests, as it has a polymer base.
  3. Long service life.
  4. Little weight. Therefore, any structure can be insulated.
  5. High resistance to fire. A substance is added to the feedstock that reduces the likelihood of ignition. When exposed to flame, the insulation will not burn, but may only melt. This will release a minimal amount of toxins.
  6. Penoplex has convenient and small sheet sizes. Therefore, it is possible to accurately determine the required amount of insulation, as well as the installation process is simpler, the amount of waste during cutting is reduced, and foam sheets can be transported in any way. If the penoplex is not in m3, then you can deliver it manually yourself.
  7. Due to the high density of the slabs, they can be used as external decoration without constructing a supporting structure. Finishing can be done using plaster compounds with reinforcement of the layer with plastic mesh or wallpapering.

If there are many advantages of penoplex, then only one disadvantage can be identified: the density of the structure. It affects sound insulation, thermal conductivity and vapor permeability. If installation is carried out by gluing sheets, then vapor permeability is important. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out additional work on the installation of natural circulation, which requires additional costs.

Before purchasing penoplex, you should decide on the thickness and linear dimensions of the material. This thermal insulation material has only one drawback, which indicates its quality, so penoplex can be safely used for thermal insulation.

Roofing Penoplex K

This type of insulation replaced Penoplex type 35 with fire retardants. Thanks to modern manufacturing technology (extruding polystyrene foam using carbon dioxide until a fine-cell structure is achieved), this type of insulation has not only the minimum thermal conductivity in the segment of materials of this class, but also excellent sound insulation properties.

Compared to its predecessor, this material has much greater fire resistance and excellent resistance to static loads, including compression, due to which it is in demand in civil, industrial and road construction, insulation of utility lines (an alternative to the outdated type 31C).

Features of use

As mentioned earlier, penoplex 35 can be used in various branches of construction. For the insulation to be effective, it is important to approach the work correctly .

  • Warm floor. Thanks to the thermal insulation properties of the material, it will be possible to reduce the thickness of the structure. At the same time, energy savings are noted. The insulation itself is located directly on the interfloor ceiling.
  • Floor of the first floors. We are talking about buildings without basements. In this case, Penoplex 35 will help to avoid the negative effects of temperature changes and moisture. Before starting work, you need to make sure that the floor is dry and prepare it with a bed of crushed stone and sand. A waterproofing layer is laid on the foam boards.
  • Foundation. In this case, the insulation is placed vertically. In this case, it is possible to reduce thermal conductivity by approximately 20%. If the foundation has not been previously insulated, you will need a blind area around the entire perimeter.
  • Pitched roof. Sheets of material are placed in a “checkerboard” pattern, which allows you to hide the rafters. To secure the material, slats and nails are used. Next, a vapor barrier layer is installed. If desired, you can lay Penoplex 35 between the rafters.

Penoplex S


Penoplex for walls

Penoplex C is an innovative insulation made from extruded polystyrene foam, designed for external and internal insulation of walls. Lightweight, practical, durable and easy to install material. It has minimal thermal conductivity - it is this quality that guarantees an excellent level of insulation and minimization of heat loss. It should be noted that the insulation characteristics of this type of insulation are so high that the energy efficiency of the building increases several times, and if insulation work is planned in parallel with construction, then it is possible to significantly save on materials by reducing the thickness of the load-bearing walls.

Compared to the outdated type 31, Penoplex C has greater fire resistance, which automatically makes it safer, and improved insulation characteristics - heat and audio impermeability.

Advantages and disadvantages

All of the listed parameters apply equally to the materials “Penoplex Foundation” and “Penoplex Roofing”. They differ in quality such as flammability. Certificates of conformity often indicate classes G2 and G1. As practice shows, it would be more correct to classify Penoplex Foundation as group G4, and Penoplex Roofing as group G3. But this is enough to consider such slabs a fire-resistant material.

According to ST SEV 2437-80, penoplex is classified as a heat insulator that does not spread flame during combustion, is difficult to burn, but produces high smoke. This is one of the few disadvantages. Although the smoke is not poisonous. During combustion, mainly carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are released. That is, smoldering penoplex is no more dangerous than burning wood.

Another important quality is the ability to withstand several freezing-thawing cycles, maintaining its characteristics, and most importantly, its thermal insulation properties. Thanks to these features, Penoplex 35 slabs can effectively serve for more than 50 years

Since thermal insulation retains heat in the house and does not let moisture in from the outside, air exchange will be difficult, so you need to take care of good ventilation. The disadvantages also include the rather high price. But when choosing another, cheaper insulation, for example, cotton, you need to take into account that such material easily absorbs moisture, often shrinks, forming cold spots, is less durable, and may soon require repairs. Therefore, in the end it may turn out that such a “thrifty” customer will also overpay.

This is a high-quality insulation made from extruded environmentally friendly polystyrene foam, designed specifically for protection against freezing, which contributes to the destruction of concrete, and effective thermal insulation of the entire structure as a whole. In addition to temperature protection, external insulation with Penoplex F minimizes the harmful effects that groundwater or insufficient drainage quality have on the building foundation.

Scope of application

The brand names speak for themselves.
"Penoplex Foundation" can be used for thermal insulation of the floor, vertical insulation of the foundation, as well as under the sole, ground floors, basements, and laying garden paths. Roofing slabs are used on roofs of any configuration, including inversion roofs, on which the layers of the “pie” are laid in the reverse order. In this case, penoplex is placed on a layer of waterproofing. In road construction, when insulating warehouses, hangars, and industrial facilities, the denser Penoplex 45 is used.

Due to their moisture resistance, the slabs do not require additional external vapor barrier. The need for an insulating layer from the inside arises when partitions are insulated from a material with higher vapor permeability, for example, aerated concrete (0.11-0.26 mg/m*h*Pa). Polyethylene and liquid glass can serve as a vapor barrier on the room side.
