How to connect a Thermex water heater with your own hands - connection diagram

How to turn on the water heater

In summer, in most apartments with centralized water supply, hot water is turned off. During this period, utility services carry out repair and maintenance work. As an alternative, the vast majority of people choose to buy tankless or storage water heaters, depending on their needs and budget.

It’s not enough to just buy a device; you need to figure out how to turn on the water heater. Although the process is quite simple, some still have doubts.

The range of equipment includes storage and instantaneous water heaters, and connecting each of them requires a certain sequence of actions, most of them approximately the same.

Selecting a water heater

Specialized stores offer a wide selection of units that heat water.

The combination of high quality and affordable cost is contained in water heaters of the Thermex brand.

They are available in storage and flow types.

The storage units have a reliable design; they can be installed by a person who has no experience in such a matter.

Such a water heater can be installed anywhere in a house, apartment, or cottage. Through it, you can simultaneously supply heated water to the kitchen, bathroom, and shower faucets.

In case of any malfunction, the safety valve built into the system will operate.

Termex flow heaters are assembled from high-quality parts, so their service life is long and the quality of their work is high.

They, just like storage units, have a safety valve. With its help, the device is protected in case of damage.

Before giving preference to any type of boiler, it is worth analyzing the capacity of the tank, the conditions in which the equipment will be operated, and its appearance.

To connect the water heater, you can use the services of specialized companies.

Installation will not take much time, but will cost a lot of money. The cost usually depends on the type of water heater.

It is worth considering that the installation cost only includes basic installation activities. All additional procedures will have to be paid additionally.

There is another option - installing a boiler yourself. For installation to be successful, you must have experience working with plumbing.

By following the sequence of work, the water heater will be installed correctly.

At the same time, you can acquire the following benefits:

  • money will be saved;
  • you can acquire new knowledge and skills that will help solve problems in the event of a water heater failure;
  • If the unit breaks down, you will not need to call a technician to dismantle the water heater.

To install a boiler with your own hands, you need to have the necessary tools and additional elements. To measure the distance between the holes you will need a tape measure.

Video:

The tank is installed using anchor bolts, which require holes in the wall. To make them, you will need a hammer drill with a drill of the required diameter.

In addition, you will need wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and wire cutters.

To seal joints, it is recommended to use tow, special paste or fum tape. Modern silicone sealants can be used.

You need to purchase shut-off valves in advance, and the corresponding number of tees for them.

Do not forget flexible connecting hoses and the required number of meters of plastic pipe if you need to change the water supply in the house.

To install new wiring, it is worth purchasing a three-core wire, the length of which should be no less than the distance between the boiler and the panel. In addition, you need an outlet and a circuit breaker for the panel.

Instructions for starting a Thermex boiler

If installation of equipment is usually carried out by specialists, then the owners themselves have to deal with its startup at least once a year. Let's take a closer look at how to turn on a Termex water heater so as not to negatively affect its performance properties. After all, the duration of operation and frequency of maintenance largely depend on the correct execution of the process.

Work order

Turning on the boiler: The steps for starting the water heater and the settings may vary slightly. It all depends on whether a flow or storage device is used. However, despite the design differences, the order of their inclusion has the same principle. The universal instructions for starting a Termex boiler are as follows:

  • Before turning on the water heater, the shut-off valve for supplying hot liquid from the common riser is closed. This occurs even if a check valve is installed on the pipe. After all, if there is a slight malfunction, the device will heat the central water supply without blocking the channel.
  • Before connecting the Termex storage water heater to the network, it is filled with water. The outlet of the hot liquid device and the mixer open in turn, and after them the inlet of the cold flow. These manipulations are necessary to displace air from the system.
  • After the water has flowed in an even stream, you can turn it off, turn on the unit to the power grid and, after setting the settings and waiting an hour or two, start using it.

The connection diagram for a Thermex water heater when using flow-type devices will be similar, except that the result will be felt immediately.

The next stage after switching on is checking the functionality. Before using the Thermex water heater you need to:

  • Make sure that the power indicators light up when plugged in.
  • Measure the temperature of the liquid supplied to the mixer.
  • After 20 minutes, look at the equipment sensors; if the connection of the boiler with the touch panel is done correctly, the temperature indicator on the device should already increase. If there is no electronic panel, you must once again measure the degree of heating of the water at the outlet of the mixer.

What to do if Thermex does not turn on

The installation process of a Thermex instantaneous water heater or any other model requires the presence of serviceable network elements: sockets, circuit breakers, cables of sufficient thickness. The devices have very high power, so if they do not work, first of all, armed with a tester, you need to check the presence of electricity in the outlet, then the power terminals. Video instructions for installing a Termex water heater will help you find their location, and the tester will help you take readings. If the voltage is zero, then the cable of the electrical appliance is broken.

What to do if the Thermex water heater does not turn on, or rather, power is supplied, but it gives an error - the most popular question. In this case, you need to open the device instructions and look at the explanation corresponding to the code indicated on the display. If this option is not available, the causes of the problem may be the following:

  • The heating element has a damaged or burnt-out coil. A sign is often a breakdown of electricity on the housing, then the RCD automatically trips and cuts off the power supply. The only way to combat this is by replacing the heating element.
  • The protection is triggered if the heating of the coolant rises above the set limit (usually more than 90 degrees), which occurs both when the control thermostat breaks down and when scale accumulates on the heating element, after which it overheats.
  • The tank is not filled with water. How to turn on a Thermex ID 50V boiler or another model for the first time was discussed above, and if the requirements for removing air from the pipes are not met, a protective mechanism is triggered. Please note that this must be done even if the system is full but has not been used for a long time.

Connecting a Termex water heater to water

To replace the heater, you need to unscrew the colored wires - yellow, red and blue. Carefully remove the thermostat and sensors. Automatic protection switches on; When the device is turned on, the plugs on the meter are knocked out; The water does not heat up or the water heats up very poorly; The water heater begins to hiss, the water comes out not clean, but cloudy. Thin boilers have two cylindrical tanks connected to each other using Double Tank technology.

The connection diagram for an electric heater must be made with one wire composition.

Having taken out the heating element W, we discovered that it was completely missing a magnesium anode. The coils overheat and burn out. The power regulator also performs an additional shutdown function at a certain heating temperature. Before connecting, it is very important to check the wiring in the entire apartment and evaluate its capabilities: the size of the wire cross-section, what it is made of, the maximum load on the wire.

Installing a boiler The first step is to fix the heater on a load-bearing wall, taking into account the fairly large weight of the equipment. Operation of the Thermex water heater

Detailed instructions for using a Thermex water heater with a volume of 15, 30, 50 and 80 liters

Termex electric water heaters are manufactured using high technology and quality materials. Such water heaters are equipped from the factory with a safe shutdown function (RCD), which increases the level of safety of the device.

Such devices are manufactured according to international standards and meet all safety and environmental requirements. These devices must undergo state certification and meet GOST standards.

Electric water heaters of the Termex model range differ in their characteristics and the volume of internal space, which can be 15, 30, 50, 80 or more liters, and in this article we will talk about a Termex water heater with a volume of 30 liters, and we will also consider detailed instructions for using this models.

The Italian company Termex produces water heating devices of excellent quality and various internal tank volumes: 15, 30, 50 and 80 liters, respectively. According to customer reviews, 30-liter water heaters can last more than ten years without problems, of course, if you follow certain rules for servicing the device.

Carrying out preparatory work

Installing a water heater requires determining where it will hang or stand. For rooms with a small area, you can install a small boiler that will hold 50-80 liters of water.

Such tanks are most often hung on the wall. You can choose a water heater with any diameter and design.

If you need to install a container larger than 220 liters, then you cannot hang it on the wall. For such a tank you need to choose a place on the floor.

Video:

When mounting a water heating tank on a wall, it is worth choosing a load-bearing wall so that it can support the weight of the unit.

To secure the tank, you need to have anchor bolts available. In some models they come complete with the tank, sometimes you need to purchase fasteners separately.

For water heaters that are placed vertically and have a volume of 30-100 liters, you will need 2 anchor bolts.

If you need to install a horizontal unit with a volume of 50-100 liters, then you need to have 4 fastening elements.

The place where the boiler will be located must meet the following requirements:

  • The water heater must be accessible throughout its entire service life;
  • Installing the tank on the wall provides the ability to withstand a load equal to double the weight of the water heater;
  • It is worth checking the wiring; it must withstand the operation of the water heater. If the wiring is old, it will need to be replaced;
  • It is necessary to check the condition of the pipes in the room, connections must be created to connect the water heater.

Main technical characteristics of Termex 30 liters

As with most electrical appliances, Thermex 30 liter water heaters require a voltage of 220V (accuracy of +/- 10%), with a frequency of 50 gigahertz. The capacity of the internal tank is 30 liters. The inlet/outlet thread size is 1/2. A device with a capacity of 30 liters heats water in no more than 50 minutes.

Thermex kit includes:

  • The water heater itself with RCD
  • Safety valve RSD, one piece
  • Directory
  • Special mounting anchors, four pieces
  • Package

Characteristics and operating principle

The outer casing of the device is made of high-quality material, and the inner part is made of stainless steel combined with titanium, resulting in high resistance to rust and durability of the device.

The remaining space between the body and the internal tank is covered with a special sealed material (polyurethane foam); this is a very environmentally friendly and modern method of thermal insulation.

There is a temperature sensor on the outside of the case. Water is heated thanks to heating elements located inside the tank, the temperature of which is controlled by a thermostat. The thermostat will maintain the set temperature.

For safety, water heaters are equipped with a function to automatically turn off the device when the maximum permissible temperature is reached - 95 degrees.

Description and principle of operation of EWH

The external housing of the EWH, depending on the model, is made of various high-quality materials - impact-resistant plastic, low-carbon or special polished stainless steel. The internal tank is made of high-quality stainless steel containing titanium, which ensures high corrosion resistance and, as a result, long service life. The space between the outer casing and the inner tank is filled with polyurethane foam - modern, environmentally friendly thermal insulation with the best heat-saving characteristics. Models RZL-VP, RZL-VS, RSD have two threaded pipes: for cold water inlet (with a blue ring) and hot water outlet (with a red ring), and models RZL-HP, RZL-HS, RZB, RZB-D, RZB-F, RZB-L are equipped with an additional drainage pipe (with a red ring, closed with a metal plug) for draining water and washing the internal tank.

There is a thermometer on the front side of the EWH (model RZL-HS, RZL-VS, 30l -150l). The location of the control panel depends on the model and type of EWH: RZL-VS, RSD - bottom, RZL-HS - right, RZB, RZB-D, RZB-F, RZB-L, RZL-HP, RZL-VP and ROUND PLUS series models - on the front side.

A tubular electric heater (TEH) and thermostat and thermal switch sensors are mounted on a removable flange. The heating element serves to heat water and is controlled by a thermostat, which has smooth temperature control up to +75°C. The thermostat automatically maintains the water temperature at the level set by the user. The temperature control knob is located on the mechanical control panel. Electronically controlled models have a touch control (Fig. 4). The thermal switch serves to protect the EWH from overheating and disconnects the heating element from the network when the water temperature exceeds +95°C (Fig. 2).

The RZB10 model is equipped with an autonomous unregulated thermostat located under the top cover of the device. Models RZB10 and RSD are equipped with a pilot lamp that induces the heating mode of the heater. The thermal switch in models RZB10 and RSD is located under the top cover. The operating mode indicator of the EWH models 30L - 150L is the backlight lamps of the power selection keys: they light up when the water is heated and go out when the water heating temperature set on the thermostat is reached. In models with electronic control, the indication is carried out by the control lamp L1 (Fig. 4) - it lights up when the set temperature is reached.

An RCD is mounted on the electrical cord of the device, which ensures that the EWH is disconnected from the power supply network in the event of a leak or breakdown of the supply voltage to the grounded elements of the device. Silver models in their design contain an electronic device with a silver anode, which ensures disinfection of heated water. This series of water heaters is a “new generation” product that takes care of your health. The safety valve functions as a check valve, preventing water from the water heater from entering the water supply network in cases of pressure drop in the latter and in cases of increasing pressure in the tank when the water is very hot, and also functions as a safety valve, relieving excess pressure in the tank when the water is very hot. When the water heater is operating, water may leak from the safety valve outlet pipe to relieve excess pressure for the safety of the water heater. This outlet pipe must remain open to the atmosphere and be installed permanently downward and in a frost-free environment.

It is necessary to ensure that water is drained from the outlet pipe of the safety valve into the sewer system by providing appropriate drainage when installing the EWH.

It is necessary to regularly (at least once a month) drain a small amount of water through the outlet pipe of the safety valve into the sewer system to remove limescale deposits and to check the functionality of the valve. To open the valve, it is equipped with a handle. It is necessary to ensure that during operation of the water heater this handle is in the position that closes the drain of water from the tank.

Safety instructions for working with a water heater

To achieve the required level of safety, the device must be grounded in accordance with current regulations for the installation of electronic devices.

When installing a water heater, it is prohibited to perform the following actions:

  • You cannot connect a water heater to the network without first filling it with water.
  • It is not permitted to dismantle the equipment while it is in operation.
  • It is forbidden to use the water heater without grounding
  • Do not connect the water pipe to the water heater without using a safety element
  • When connecting the device, the pressure in the water supply system should not exceed 0.6 MPa
  • You cannot use for installation of equipment those elements that are not included in the kit.
  • The water in the system must be clean, free of impurities and other heavy elements that may adversely affect the operation of the device.
  • The water from such a water heater is not food grade.
  • Drain water from the water heater only when the power is turned off.

Instructions for installing and connecting the device

Placement and installation of the water heater

The water heater is attached to a special housing bracket using pre-hammered anchors.

Electrical connection

The device comes with a standard cord and plug for connecting to the mains. The outlet must be modern (with a grounding terminal) and located in an area protected from humidity. In this case, you need to take into account the maximum permissible power for the socket and cord, which must be more than two thousand watts, otherwise the wire or socket may overheat and a fire hazard may arise.

Maintenance and operation instructions, tank capacity 15, 30, 50 and 80 liters

The device is controlled via the control panel, which is located on the front side. Such control can be either mechanical or touch, depending on the selected model.

In Termex models with a tank capacity of 15, 30, 50 and 80 liters and with mechanical control, control is carried out using buttons (1 or 2), which indicate the power of the water heater, where “1” means a power of 1.3 kW of energy, and the total power is 2 kW. The power level is selected based on the situation and need, as well as depending on the time of year.

A water heater with touch control and a digital screen is considered more functional and modern. Switching on and off the power of the device is carried out using the “ON/OFF” keys on the equipment screen. The screen also displays information about the current temperature level. The power can be adjusted using the button located in the middle - “Power selector”.

When using a Termex water heater, the temperature is adjusted:

In devices with a mechanical control system using a regulator on the front side of the device. In such a device, the temperature decreases by turning the knob from right to left, and accordingly, by turning the knob from left to right, the temperature increases, the maximum level of which can reach +75 degrees. You can turn off such an electric water heater by turning the regulator from right to left until it stops. It is worth noting that the Termex RZB10 water heater model does not provide for manual temperature control.

Devices with electronic (touch) control have an LCD display. Control is carried out using three touch buttons. You can also select the appropriate operating mode of the water heater on the screen. To set the required temperature, you need to press the “Temp” key a couple of times. Selector" on the front side of the device. In all Thermex electric water heaters, the default temperature value is set at 75 degrees from the factory, which is also restored in the event of an unexpected power outage.

If during operation of the water heater the automatic shutdown system operates, then after the time has elapsed, you must turn on the device using the corresponding key. If the device turns off again after turning it on, then you cannot do without involving a specialist in this matter. Under no circumstances try to open or repair the device yourself, as it can only be repaired with special tools and professional skills.

If during the cold season the water heater is not used for a long time, it is recommended to turn it off and drain the water from the internal tank of the device in order to avoid freezing and damage to the water heater.

How to choose the optimal operating mode?

Usually, when talking about savings, boiler users begin to argue about the advisability of permanently connecting the device to an outlet. One part of the audience insists on “full alert” mode, when the water heater remains plugged in 25 hours a day. Their opponents insist on 4-5 hours of work per day required to “boil” the “stock” of hot water contained in the boiler tank. After which the device is disconnected from the outlet manually or automatically.

So: both of them are wrong. You will not save on electricity by turning off a boiler that is heated to maximum temperature. And you will not be able to save your budget from unnecessary expenses if the water heater operates in constant current consumption mode.

Horizontal water heater

The “power” mode of the boiler affects energy consumption only by the very fact of the absence of hot water in the switched off heater. You will not take a shower and will wash dishes in cold water. Agree - this is not the savings we expected.

However, everything is not so bad. We can learn how to properly use a boiler to save money by referring to Fourier’s law of thermal conductivity, which talks about the relationship between the energy absorbed when heating the medium and the temperature difference between the outgoing and incoming flows.

And the smaller the temperature difference between the liquid entering the tank and the water reserve stored there, the less energy is required to heat the resulting “cocktail”, consisting of cold, warm and hot layers.

Simply put, by reducing the “heat” of the boiler from 85-90 to 55-60 degrees Celsius, you will use the boiler around the clock, saving more electricity than if you constantly turn off a water heater heated to maximum. In addition, at a temperature of 55-60 °C, the process of release of salt sediment - scale - slows down, which reduces the thermal power of the heating element.

How to clean the heating element?

A dirty heating element cannot heat water with the same efficiency. Part of the energy is absorbed by the scale layer. And if you get rid of it, you will get an immediate effect of reducing energy consumption.

Water heater design diagram

Well, the “cleaning” of the heating element itself looks like this:

  • You are draining the water from the boiler.
  • Disconnect the device from the network and remove the heating element.
  • Next, you prepare a cleaning solution by mixing 1.5 liters of water and 15 grams of citric acid.
  • The dismantled heating element is immersed in the solution and kept in it until the heater is completely cleaned.
  • The cleaned element is mounted in the housing.
  • The water heater is connected to the water supply and switched off to the network.

If you don’t want to bother with wrenches, screwdrivers and basins to collect excess scale, prepare 2.5-3 thousand rubles. For this money, they will change your heating element right at home.

Maintenance

Maintenance involves the identification and subsequent removal of scale that forms on heating elements. Also, sediment may form in the lower part of the internal tank of the device, which must also be removed. Descaling is carried out using special cleaning agents. The intensity of maintenance is determined by special workers after analyzing the accumulated scale. It is recommended to carry out the first maintenance of the device after a year of use. Failure to carry out cleaning work will lead to a decrease in operating efficiency and a decrease in the level of efficiency.

In most cases, the cause of failure of water heaters is precisely the scale formed on the heating element. If the heating element or heating device fails, and the reason for this is the formation of scale, in this case repairs are not provided under warranty. Periodic maintenance must be carried out by the user himself.

To carry out proper maintenance of the device, you must: 1. Turn off the device 2. Wait until the hot water cools down, or drain it through the tap 3. Shut off the cold water supply 4. Unscrew the drain valve 5. You must put a regular hose on the valve and direct it to the sewer 6. It is also necessary to drain the hot water through the mixer 7. Now you can remove the device body, disconnect the wires, unscrew and remove the support flange 8 from the water heater. Check for scale on the heating element and at the bottom of the tank, if any, carry out appropriate cleaning. 9. Reassemble the device in reverse order.

This article discussed the technical characteristics and instructions for using a Termex electric water heater with a capacity of 30 liters. Note that the manufacturer has established a minimum service life of a Termex water heater of seven years. But this is only provided that the water in the system meets the necessary standards and does not contain a large amount of impurities and heavy elements, and that the installation, operation and timely maintenance rules are followed when using the device.
